The Blogger's Prayer

Lo, there do I see my posts.
Lo, there do I see my tweets.
Lo, there do I see my gifsets and my picspams.
Lo, there do I see the line of my blog, back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them on the Internets,
Where the geek may live forever.

This tree grows near my house and sometimes the moon rises right over it which gives me a nice view. Unfortunately today, I missed it, so it's a daytime picture instead. I'd wait until the full moon in a couple of days, but it's the end of the second week already, and I want to get the picture posted.

This is the first entry in my attempt at completing a Project 52. I'm aware that technically the first week of January is over, but pfft, that's how we roll around here. :P

I've been trying to put together a year-end mix, but it's just not working. As usual, it'll probably end up coming together at the last minute. *sigh* Nothing is working right now. *pokes brainmeats*

For the first line of the first post of every month thingy, I skipped my upload posts and any posts that didn't have text (like photo posts in November). And there's a couple that start off with one word, so I included the following sentence as well.

Let me sum up. )

We have a new roommate! We decided that we didn't really care if it was a guy or a girl, so I changed the ad I put online, and got mostly guys calling/writing about it. I came back to Wrocław on Saturday, and while I was on the train a guy called, and we arranged for him to come over in the afternoon. He came by, he liked the place, and decided to take the room. Which means Magda and I will no longer have to spend an extra 325 PLN each to pay for the extra room, yaaaay. Artur seems like a solid dude, so here's hoping it all works out, because I really don't want to have to move before the end of this school year. And he doesn't mind cats, so Operation I WANT A CAT might still happen.

I called a medical clinic today and booked an appointment with an ENT. Ostensibly, we have public health care in Poland, but if you want to get in to see a specialist, you're in for a long wait if you want your visit paid for by the system. If you're willing to pay out of pocket, however, you can call on Monday and get an appointment for Thursday, which I was definitely willing to do, because FFFFFFUUUUUU SINUSES. My cough is starting to come back, and I'd like to get this taken care of before I develop another case of tracheitis and have to take antibiotics. I don't really want to miss any more school, since I missed three weeks because of the surgery and recovery and the lingering sinus infection already. Here's hoping this guy will be able to help me out and soon.

I got absolutely NOTHING done over Christmas. It wasn't actually that stressful, since I was able to get away and do some calming breathing/tension relieving screaming into a pillow/walking the neighbors' dog when I needed it. I think I'm still a bit frazzled from the translation, but I need to get my ass in gear and get back to work. I'm floundering a bit over my MA thesis, but I'm hoping that once I get back into the swing of things, everything will sort itself out and I'll get back on track. *deeeeeeeep breaths*

Well. November's done and over with now, and I figured I'd do a little sum-up post of the photo-a-day challenge. Amazingly, I managed to get all 30 pictures! There were a few slip-ups along the way, but I got them. All in all, I think non-themed challenges are probably better for me, especially with my tendency to forget to take the picture until late in the evening and then having to scramble to get it done before midnight. I'm still not sure if I'm going to attempt a Project 365 any time soon, but who knows? Here are all the pictures together, below the cut!

This is cheating a little bit, because I didn't get around to taking a photo on the 22nd, and they're both rather similar-themed, but if "cat + Dalek" doesn't sum up "popular culture" (or at least a large part of it), I don't know what does. Both are from our Doctor Who viewing party last night.

Haaa, yes. Four days all at once, because of course I left my camera at home when I went to visit my grandparents. Also, this whole thing is totally an excuse for me to play with the various filters in Snapseed. >_>

Day 8 prompt: self portrait.

Hey, there was nothing that said they couldn't both be faceless. ;) And of course today's photo is on the memory card in the camera, which is in WRO while I'm at my grandparents' for the weekend, so that and tomorrow's photos will have to wait until Monday.

The 31 days of blogging challenge has been (mostly) a success, so I've decided that I'm going to attempt a photo-a-day challenge in November. Normally I'd be trying to do something writing-related in connection with NaNoWriMo, but I'm kind of burnt out creatively and I'm worried that with everything else I've got on my plate I'd start a project and then have it fall by the wayside, so I'm going to stick with something relatively low-effort.

I've looked through some of the existing photo-a-day prompt lists out there, and assembled my own.

I didn't really look too closely at the other challenges, so I don't know whether they set the rules so that the photo has to be taken on the day of the prompt, but whatever, if inspiration for another day's prompt strikes, I'll be taking the photo and posting it on the day it's assigned to. I haven't decided if I'm going to actually write about the photos or just post them without commentary. Hmm. Interpretation of the prompts can be strict or loosely based-on, because I don't want to get too restrictive. Basically, the main goal here is to have fun, hence the lax rules and procedures.

If you want to join in, drop me a comment! The more, the merrier!

Where have you traveled?

Poland, Canada, the U.S., Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland.

Some of those are just very brief visits, some of them involved actual sight-seeing and touristy bits. I want to go back to pretty much all of them and see more. If only travel didn't involve so much dealing with people and milling around with tourists and actually having to be a normal human being. ;)

I'm planning another trip this winter around my birthday. I don't know if it's going to be another visit to New York, or if I'll end up going somewhere else yet, but I definitely want to go somewhere.

Whoops. Between trying to get some work done and trying to fight off the lingering illness that doesn't seem to be getting much better, I spaced out yesterday and didn't post this on time.

Day 27: Post your favorite recipe.

It's not my favorite favorite recipe, because I honestly don't know if I have one of those, but here's my recent favorite dinner recipe and an old favorite cookie recipe. Both as just links, because there's no point reposting them.

Baked Orzo with Eggplant and Mozzarella from Smitten Kitchen and Itsy Bitsy Chocolate Chip Cookies from 101 Cookbooks

Day 28: What are you looking forward to?

Currently, I'm looking forward to not being sick anymore. And having the book translation done. And having the other translation done. And having enough time and energy to properly get started on my MA thesis background reading.

Yes, it's lame. It's the simple things that make life worth living. ;)
