too hot to function
Pants are indeed useless, as my icon says, because it's too fucking hot to wear anything. I can't really do a lot of work because my laptop gets so hot that it starts to burn my wrists and gets really uncomfortable. I know my wrists shouldn't be touching the computer at all, but the old sewing machine table I'm using for a desk is a little bit too tall, and to keep a proper position of my wrists I'd have to hold my hands up at an uncomfortable angle. So I end up resting my wrists on the keyboard, and then they get hot, and the wrists are one of those places on the body that you can *really feel the temperature through (it's like in the winter, if it's cold, make sure your wrists are covered and you'll feel warmer, and in the summer, if you're really hot, run some cold water over them and you'll cool off a bit), so I feel even more hot and miserable and AUGH. GO AWAY, SUMMER HEAT.
I got used to -35C in the winter, am I going to have to live here for twenty years before I'm used to +35C in the summer? *cries*
I need to do more work, but a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon is pretty much all I can manage. Between the heat sucking out my will to live not to mention the ability to think in two languages and try to wrangle this book into something coherent and my grandparents not really getting the concept of "I need to work, so please don't call me down for dinner, I'll eat when I'm hungry," it's really surprising I've gotten as much done on the translation as I have.
There isn't really any place in the house I can work comfortably - my room is in the attic, which means it turns into an oven on hot days. There are rooms on the first floor of the house, but one of them doesn't have a desk, and the other one is my grandfather's room, and both of them, while marginally cooler, are still too hot to work. Downstairs is where Gran watches TV, loudly, so that's out, and outside in the garden isn't an option. The cellar is delightfully cool, but there isn't really a good work surface there, although if this weather continues, I'm going to have to try
and set something up down there.
The thing with my laptop getting hot means that I can't really sit in bed with it on my lap (I'm writing this on my phone). This also means I can't really write, or fiddle with iTunes playlists, or screw around on the internet. Or work with the laptop in my lap, really. I want to write, I want to make mixes, I want to maybe open up Photoshop and make something, I want to do all sorts of stuff but it's just so goddamned hot that I can't be bothered. I can't read, I can't listen to music, all I want to do is sleep, and I can't even do that, because it's too fucking hot to sleep comfortably and then I wake up with a headache and there's throwing up and my grandparents worrying about me and AUGH.
My mom asked what I wanted her to get me for finishing my BA, and I told her I wanted a tablet. I'm not sure if she managed to order it so it would get to her before she leaves tonight, so I guess we'll see tomorrow night when she gets here. I'm hoping with a tablet and some writing software, I can get some writing done (I'm not going to finish my OFBB story on time this year, but I want to get it done anyway). At the very least I can use it to look at Tumblr and listen to music and watch some TV.

Well, it's not like, *burning burning. It would probably feel nice if it was winter and cold in my room, but with these temps, not so much. I have a temperature gauge app on my laptop, and when it's cool to the touch, it's usually around 40C, but these days it's hovering around 60-65C, so yeah, it's running hot.

Holy crap.

Yeah that's probably what it is. and if your room's not cool...it's not helping cool it down. Like mine sits on a glass table and I keep my apt around 20C. So that helps.

*cries* It was 27 in the coolest room in the house the other day (barring the cellar). I am so ready for winter at this point, you have no idea.
