31 days of blogging challenge: day 1
So I was going to do this in August, but then Life happened and I didn't get around to it. And then I was going to do it in September, but then Work happened and I didn't get around to it. And then I decided I was going to do it in October, come hell or high water, so here it is. The themes in the image and the first day's answers under the jump.
My name is Paulina, I'm Polish-Canadian (I was born in Poland and my family is all from here, but I lived in Canada for 19 years and I have dual citizenship, and I identify as both Polish and Canadian). While Polish is the first language I learned, I speak both Polish and English fluently, and I'm more comfortable with English. I'm in my 30s. I live in Poland, where I'm studying English Philology (basically, I'm an English major, but it's linguistics and literature combined) and specializing in translation. I recently finished my BA and I'm starting my MA this month. I haven't decided what I'm going to write my MA dissertation on, but it'll be something to do with translation. "Paulina's MA dissertation topic" is a subject We Do Not Speak About in these parts. I also work as a freelance translator, doing Polish > English work. I'm currently translating a book, among other things.
And because I am a smartass, here is a recent picture of me:
:P (That's me at the Altstadtfest in Görlitz, Germany, which is right across the border from Zgorzelec, which is about 30 km away from where my grandparents live. Photo taken by my mom.) I don't really come out well in pictures. I usually either look like a total dork, or I end up looking like a deer in the headlights, as demonstrated by my last "official" picture, which is unfortunately going to be my school ID and index book picture for the next two years. Bleh.
