The Blogger's Prayer

Lo, there do I see my posts.
Lo, there do I see my tweets.
Lo, there do I see my gifsets and my picspams.
Lo, there do I see the line of my blog, back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them on the Internets,
Where the geek may live forever.

Well. November's done and over with now, and I figured I'd do a little sum-up post of the photo-a-day challenge. Amazingly, I managed to get all 30 pictures! There were a few slip-ups along the way, but I got them. All in all, I think non-themed challenges are probably better for me, especially with my tendency to forget to take the picture until late in the evening and then having to scramble to get it done before midnight. I'm still not sure if I'm going to attempt a Project 365 any time soon, but who knows? Here are all the pictures together, below the cut!

This is cheating a little bit, because I didn't get around to taking a photo on the 22nd, and they're both rather similar-themed, but if "cat + Dalek" doesn't sum up "popular culture" (or at least a large part of it), I don't know what does. Both are from our Doctor Who viewing party last night.

Haaa, yes. Four days all at once, because of course I left my camera at home when I went to visit my grandparents. Also, this whole thing is totally an excuse for me to play with the various filters in Snapseed. >_>

Day 8 prompt: self portrait.

Hey, there was nothing that said they couldn't both be faceless. ;) And of course today's photo is on the memory card in the camera, which is in WRO while I'm at my grandparents' for the weekend, so that and tomorrow's photos will have to wait until Monday.

The 31 days of blogging challenge has been (mostly) a success, so I've decided that I'm going to attempt a photo-a-day challenge in November. Normally I'd be trying to do something writing-related in connection with NaNoWriMo, but I'm kind of burnt out creatively and I'm worried that with everything else I've got on my plate I'd start a project and then have it fall by the wayside, so I'm going to stick with something relatively low-effort.

I've looked through some of the existing photo-a-day prompt lists out there, and assembled my own.

novemberphotochallenge

I didn't really look too closely at the other challenges, so I don't know whether they set the rules so that the photo has to be taken on the day of the prompt, but whatever, if inspiration for another day's prompt strikes, I'll be taking the photo and posting it on the day it's assigned to. I haven't decided if I'm going to actually write about the photos or just post them without commentary. Hmm. Interpretation of the prompts can be strict or loosely based-on, because I don't want to get too restrictive. Basically, the main goal here is to have fun, hence the lax rules and procedures.

If you want to join in, drop me a comment! The more, the merrier!

I know many of you are doing NaNoWriMo starting in a few days, but for those of us who aren't, how about a daily photo challenge? I'm putting together a list of prompts that I'm going to share, as well as a graphic with all the prompts on it. Anyone wanna join me?
astro_noms: (hannibal is better than you)

I was looking through some pictures from last summer's hike to Śnieżka that I never uploaded, and this one jumped out at me. With the recent craze of Hannibal sweeping through the internets, I thought this one was nicely topical.

I'm really looking forward to going back to Śnieżka and the Samotnia hostel. It was so beautiful and peaceful there. I think I'm going to plan a last minute getaway in September, before school starts, to reboot my brain and recharge my batteries.

tiny t-rex!
for the "favorite" square of my [community profile] snapshot_bingo

There was going to be a different photo for today's post, but by the time I got around to getting ready to go out and take it, it was already dark outside and it wouldn't have worked. So instead, you get a tiny t-rex! He's actually a keychain I got at the Natural History Museum in London, but I've been wearing him as a pendant, instead.

Also! There's a new Nine Inch Nails song out! And it is FABULOUS.

Meanwhile, I'm attempting to clear some space on my hard drive by deleting some music I haven't listened to in a while, and it's HARD. Like, what if I delete this album I grabbed out of curiosity for something else and never actually listened to, and then decide I want to listen to it? So I end up listening to the album, or at least a few tracks from it, and then it all takes a lot longer than it should. So the progress is slow, but I'm still making some. At least with the "movie soundtracks" playlist. It's better not to mention any of the other playlists. /o\

Shhh, ignore the date stamp, it's still Wednesday somewhere in the world...

a starling
photo for the "above" square of my [community profile] snapshot_bingo card

We had a visit from a huge flock of starlings today. They crowded in on the pear tree in the back yard, chattering up a storm. Grandpa says if they stick around, there probably won't be a lot of fruit this year, so here's hoping they're just passing through. Did  you know that a flock of starlings is called a murmuration? Did you also know that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had a pet starling?

Starling teaches lessons of group etiquette, social standing an family relations and how you appear to the world in those relationships. He will show the nuances of the art of communication and vocalization which needs to be clear and expressive. It's time to speak your voice. Starling can show how to be a fierce competitor to achieve goals along with using all the resources available to do such. Are you balancing your feminine/masculine qualities? It is time to accomplish tasks early and not wait until the last minute. Are you clinging to an idea, perception, people too tightly? Starling will teach much about sensitivity to others and working as a unity either in this world or another and will instill a sense of protection and hope.

obligatory facebook photo

Caerphilly was lovely! The castle is amazing and I seriously envy the people who live in a town with a freaking castle in the middle. We climbed up into some towers and onto the walls and took a bunch of photos I need to run through Lightroom because my camera apparently can't balance between "bright sky" and "dark stone" and most of the pictures are really dark. Someday, I'll figure out how to make the damned thing work properly. We didn't get to see the Great Hall, where apparently scenes from Doctor Who's "Vampires of Venice" were filmed, but the rest of it was still pretty awesome.

It was actually really cold and windy, but at least it didn't rain, so at least that's something? IDK. It's below freezing and snowing in Poland, so that's not going to be pleasant. :\

I guess now I should stop slacking off and try to finish as much packing as I can today. The landlord is coming tomorrow at 3pm to check the rooms, get the keys back from us, and give us back our deposits - well, part of them, because he's taking out a bunch of money for the heating bill. Even though there were days when there was no fucking heat in the house. But apparently we've exceeded the "reasonable" 5GPB/week allotment, so he's taking it out of our deposits. *sigh* I'm just hoping he doesn't try to pick on anything else in our rooms, because seriously, the only reason we've put up with as much of the bullshit in this house as we have - mold growing on the walls, cold drafts everywhere, the fucking dog that barks for eight hours a day, etc. - is that we were only here for a few months, so it wasn't worth it. But I really don't want to get into an argument in the last hours we're here, so keep your fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly tomorrow.

And I posted fic! Another short fic, another Batwoman AU story. This thing is going to be HUEG if we ever finish writing it. But anyway, creepy babymaking porn! The Price of Anything (1,000 words, f/f/m, explicit) - here at [community profile] atomicvaudeville.
